So I was not particularly thinking « cool Beijing Dudes » this morning. First of all, most of the time, the men here look like a version of the lovelies photographed recently by Trev, author/photographer of the funniest blog about living ( and surviving) in Beijing « www.thetigerfather.com »

The very funny TigerFather recently covered the topic I had avoided like the plague all summer, namely « fat-chinese-dude-with-shirt-rolled-to-armpits », and whenever I see one/them – which is kinda all the time –  I just firmly adjust my Chanel sunnies and pretend I am elsewhere, like Cap d’Antibes, where i could call the Fashion Police and have them arrested.

Anyway.

So today, like just about any other day, I was really not thinking about swag, or Chinese Stylish Men in general.

I was merely preparing for a couple of work-related interviews, and hoping to catch in North Sanlitun a few Belle du Jour I could later relate to the topics I am currently working on for FIB (to be continued later).

I was however on the lookout for men with purses (known as – don’t laugh MURSE – (Men+Purse=murse) because I recently found out that they represent  +45% of sales of luxury handbags in China! That’s a massive 45%-50% of the $1.2 BILLION sales for Vuitton, Coach, Gucci, Hermes etc…

In other terms, it is hundreds of millions of euros/dollars/diamonds/whatever.

It is enormous! –

(and not to be confused with the lovely habit of Chinese men to carry their girlfriends/wives/daughters purse while shopping together. It is a common sight here to see a guy with a pink 2.55 or a turquoise Balenciaga Motorcycle on his shoulder while a few feet away a girl is shopping, both hands free and shoes matching to the purse.  A MURSE is an important status symbol here, and as Chinese men are becoming wealthier, they show off that money with their (cars, mistress, clothes etc) AND purse/bags – which on top of it are also useful to carry their status i.Toys.

The second I started looking around, I did see the murse. Everywhere. Men, of all shapes and ages walk around with bags across their shoulders, knapsacks, large « wallet » hanging from their wrists, designer computer bags etc…

And then today…. Boom, boom, boom, with the ever confidential « China Fashion Week » and « Beijing Design Week » looming close to the horizon, beautiful, stylish men started to fall from trees, like blondes in LA: « Shake one, three on the ground ».

As my beloved friend Jeffrey in NYC was asking me recently where were the boys in Beijing, today, I am proud to say. « A few were in front of me ».

Et donc récemment, Trev/le TigerFather ayant fait un post particulièrement hilarant sur le phénomène que j’avais réussi a esquiver tout l’été, celui pour être précis du “bedon+t.shirt roulé”. Je croyais mon été sauvé.

Anyway.

Donc, ce matin, comme tous les matins, je ne pensais pas forcément au Swag ni aux hommes modeux de Pékin en général. Je préparais tranquillement mes entretiens boulots et espérait attraper au vol quelques jolies filles pour mon blog sur des sujets que je prépare actuellement. Par contre, j’avoue que je cherchais quand meme un peu des hommes portant des sacs a mains. Le mot en anglais pour ce phénomène vestimentaire chinois est super drôle:  MURSE – Contraction de Purse (sac a mains en anglais et Man) = murse.

Le phénomène est impressionnant en Chine, et tout d’abord dans les chiffres. Les sacs a mains d’Homme représentent en Chine environ 45% des ventes de sacs de luxe! C’est énorme! C’est donc +45des $1.2 Milliard de dollars des ventes de Vuitton, Coach, Gucci, Hermès etc…

Il ne faut pas mélanger les sacs pour hommes avec  leur habitude charmante de porter les sacs de leurs copines/épouses/filles partout. Il est relativement commun en Chine de voir un homme porter avec désinvolture un Jumbo Chanel rose vif ou le Motocycle Balenciaga en vert émeraude au bras pendant qu’une fille 3 mètres plus loin fait son shopping avec les chaussures assorties. Un MURSE est un symbole de réussite ici, et plus les hommes chinois gagnent de l’argent, plus ils veulent le montrer avec leurs « sacs a mains », très pratique aussi pour trimballer tous les i.Jouets…

La minute où j’ai commencé à regarder à droite et à gauche, partout j’ai vu les terribles murses.

Partout ! Des hommes de tous âges et milieux se promènent dans Pékin et le reste de la Chine vu les chiffres des ventes avec des sacs sur l’épaule, au poignet, dans le dos, en bandoulière…

Et aujourd’hui… Pif, paf, poum…. Avec la super confidentielle « China Fashion Week » et la « Beijing Design Week » qui commencent d’une minute à l’autre des hommes chics, élégants, pour ne pas dire carrément pas mal se sont mis à pousser dans la ville comme des champignons après la pluie.

Il y a quelques jours, Jeff mon meilleur ami à New York me demandait où sont les hommes de Pékin sur mon blog, aujourd’hui, je peux dire fièrement « devant moi ».
